Restoring Clean Water, Restoring Hope
Every morning, families Roh Abad village in Dand District, Kandahar Province, begin their day searching for water. They walk long distances carrying empty containers, only to return with water that is unsafe to drink.
For 70 families, this is not a temporary hardship—it has become part of everyday life.
As part of WAFA’s commitment to supporting vulnerable communities across Afghanistan, our team reached out to this community after learning about their water crisis. Through direct communication with local representatives and photographs shared from the village, we confirmed that the community’s water supply system is no longer functioning due to damaged essential equipment. Today, 70 families are left without reliable access to clean and safe drinking water.
Without a functioning water system, families have no choice but to collect water from an open irrigation reservoir. This water is also used by livestock and is exposed to contamination, making it unsafe for drinking, cooking, and daily household use.
The consequences are serious. Children are especially vulnerable to waterborne diseases, while women and elderly family members spend hours each day collecting water instead of caring for their families, attending school, or earning a livelihood.
A Simple Solution Can Change Lives
The good news is that this crisis has a practical solution.
With your support, WAFA will procure and install the essential equipment needed to restore the village’s water supply system, bringing clean and reliable drinking water back to 70 households and the local mosque.
Access to safe water means more than filling a container.
It means healthier children.
It means fewer preventable illnesses.
It means women and girls no longer enduring the daily burden of carrying heavy water containers over long distances or collecting water from unsafe and unhygienic locations. Instead, they can spend more time in school, at work, and with their families while enjoying safe water close to home.
It means restoring dignity, hope, and opportunity for an entire community.
